This research intends to engage the notion of the biography of the object in the study of inscribed bronzes in early Western Zhou tombs. Different from the use-life cultural historical approach that focused on the changes to the morphological or functional characteristics of an object, a biographical approach seeks to understand the way objects become invested with meaning through social interactions they are caught up in, and the persons and events to which they are connected. 2
